We are very pleased to welcome Simonetta Marotta to the Department of Pediatrics for a four-month research stay in Edmonton, she is joining us for a period of 120 days.
About Simonetta
Simonetta is a 5th-year medical student (Bachelor of Medicine) from Peru, with a strong interest in medical research and academic medicine. Her background, academic excellence, and motivation make her a wonderful addition to our research environment, and she brings valuable perspective and experience to the projects she will be involved in.
Research focus and activities
During her stay, Simonetta will be primarily engaged in research activities, supported closely by my research team. Her work will focus on RETAIN Serious Games, an innovative simulation-based educational platform designed to improve neonatal resuscitation training and team performance.
Her activities will include:
Hands-on experience in participant enrolment, informed consent, and data collection
Active participation in weekly research meetings
Engagement in scientific writing workshops
Exposure to hypothesis-driven, clinically relevant research in neonatology and medical education
Given her prior research experience and advanced stage of medical training, Simonetta is expected to play a meaningful role in the research projects and contribute substantively to ongoing work.
A global learning environment
All activities will take place in Edmonton, within a collaborative and international research environment that values mentorship, hands-on learning, and knowledge exchange. Simonetta’s visit reflects our ongoing commitment to global collaboration and training the next generation of clinician-scientists.
We are delighted to have Simonetta join us for the next four months and look forward to working with her, learning from her, and supporting her continued development as a future physician and researcher.
Welcome to Edmonton, Simonetta—we’re thrilled to have you with us!
