Connecting practice, evidence, and experience across institutions
Part 2 of the educational tour through Pakistan took us to two outstanding clinical centers, each offering a unique perspective on neonatal care while sharing a common commitment to improving outcomes for newborns.
Stop 1: Liaquat National Hospital
The first visit of the day was to Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College and was expertly organized by the local team. We met with an engaged and highly experienced neonatal team to discuss neonatal resuscitation, with a particular focus on the practical application of CPAP and high-flow nasal therapy in both the delivery room and the NICU.
A key highlight of this session was the case-based discussion. Together, we reviewed real-world clinical scenarios, current practices, and evolving trends in neonatal respiratory support. These conversations underscored how evidence-based recommendations are adapted to local contexts and resources, and how shared reflection can drive continuous improvement in care.
Stop 2: Indus Hospital and Health Network
The second visit was to the Indus Hospital and Health Network, with the program organized by Dr. Naila Nizami, Dr. Vinod Kumar, and Dr. Syed Muzaffar Saleem. The educational program mirrored the first session, covering neonatal resuscitation, CPAP, and high-flow therapy, and was again anchored by interactive, case-based learning.
The discussions at Indus Hospital were dynamic and insightful, with clinicians openly sharing their experiences, challenges, and innovations in neonatal care. The strong engagement from the team highlighted a shared commitment to advancing best practices and improving outcomes for newborn infants.
Shared learning across institutions
Across both visits, what stood out most was the enthusiasm of the clinical teams and their willingness to engage in open, thoughtful dialogue. These sessions reinforced that impactful education is collaborative—built on mutual respect, shared experience, and a common goal of delivering the best possible care.
Looking ahead
The visits to Liaquat National Hospital and the Indus Hospital and Health Network added significant depth to this educational journey. I am deeply grateful to the organizing teams for their leadership and hospitality.
More reflections from the remainder of the week will follow—stay tuned for the next chapter of the Educational Tour through Pakistan.
