CSAR / Research4Babies Newsletter Summary

April was an exceptionally productive and exciting month for the CSAR / Research4Babies team—marked by major clinical trial milestones, international engagement, trainee achievements, and growing collaborations across the globe.
🧪 Clinical trials moving forward
The HiLo Trial reached a major milestone with 1,150 of 1,200 infants recruited, bringing us very close to completion of one of the largest neonatal trials in Canada. We also welcomed a new participating site, Université de Sherbrooke, further strengthening our national network.
At the same time, we continued advancing the SURV1VE program of research, focusing on building the scientific foundation through publications, dissemination, and international engagement.
This work remains essential to prepare for the next phase of large-scale clinical trials in neonatal resuscitation.
🌍 Global engagement & conferences
April also saw strong international engagement. Members of the team participated in the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting 2026 in Boston, contributing multiple presentations, posters, and sessions across key areas including neonatal resuscitation, respiratory support, CPR, and artificial intelligence.
In addition, participation in the 12. Kongress der Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Notfallmedizin provided an opportunity to connect neonatal resuscitation with prehospital emergency care, highlighting the importance of delivering effective newborn resuscitation even outside the hospital setting.
These meetings provided an important platform to share our work, strengthen collaborations, and engage with the global neonatal research community.
🎓 Training the next generation
A major highlight this month was the outstanding contribution of our trainees.
Undergraduate students presented their work at the University of Alberta Pediatric Research Day
Several students completed their research courses with outstanding performance, contributing to projects on vasopressin, brain injury, and neonatal physiology
These achievements underscored our strong commitment to mentorship and developing the next generation of clinician-scientists.
🤝 Building networks
April highlighted the importance of collaboration. From expanding trial networks across Canada to strengthening international partnerships and investigator engagement, our work continued to be driven by a shared goal: improving outcomes for newborns through coordinated, high-quality research.
🔍 Looking ahead
As we move into the next months, several key priorities remain:
Completing recruitment for the HiLo Trial
Continuing to build the evidence base and readiness for the SURV1VE program
Advancing innovation in neonatal resuscitation and respiratory care
Supporting trainees and early-career researchers
Welcoming the Summer Students Class of 2026 in May
🙌 Thank you
None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our research teams, collaborators, trainees, and—most importantly—the families who participated in our studies.
April was a month of progress, collaboration, and impact.
Thank you for being part of the Research4Babies journey. Stay tuned for what’s next.

Total beginner here so please be kind. My friend convinced me to try betting on yesterday's match and i was so nervous. Didn't even know where to start. Then he told me to just watch the first few overs and pay attention to who looked comfortable at the crease. So i did that and placed an IPL live bet on the next over total runs. And guess what? I actually won. It was only a small amount but my heart was pounding the whole time. Now i totally get why people love this. Definitely doing it again tomorrow.
