CSAR Lab | University of Alberta
We are excited to welcome the Class of Summer Students 2026 to the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta and to our research team at CSAR.
The Undergraduate Summer Students’ Research Program offers undergraduate and medical students a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on research under faculty supervision. Running between May and August, with placements of two to four months, the program includes approximately 200 students each year—making it the largest program of its kind in Canada.
Research at CSAR
This summer, our students will be immersed in a dynamic research environment focused on improving outcomes for newborns and infants. Projects in the CSAR lab span a wide range of topics, including:
Neonatal and infant resuscitation
Monitoring during resuscitation and after NICU discharge
Respiratory support strategies
Machine learning and digital health innovations
Translational and clinical research
Meet our Summer Students
We are thrilled to have three outstanding students joining our team this year:
Riley Suiter – working on oxygen and brain injury, exploring how oxygen strategies impact neurological outcomes in newborns
Aziza Abdurakhmanova – focusing on improving advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, contributing to advancing neonatal and infant CPR
Angelina Khurram – working on digital health, leveraging technology and data to improve monitoring and care
Looking ahead
Summer students play a vital role in our research program. They bring fresh perspectives, energy, and curiosity—and often contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects, presentations, and publications.
We are looking forward to an exciting and productive summer and are confident that this group will make important contributions to neonatal research.
Stay tuned for their work—and future publications!
