Thank You to Our 2026 Summer Research Students

As summer comes to an end, the Research4Babies team is saying farewell—for now—to three outstanding summer students who will soon return to university.
Throughout the summer, Angelina Khurram, Riley Suiter, and Aziza Abdurakhmanova became valued members of our research team. Each contributed to an important project aimed at improving neonatal resuscitation and the care of newborn infants.
Angelina Khurram worked on a pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study of epinephrine. Her project examined how epinephrine is absorbed, distributed, and produces physiological effects—information that may help us better understand how this medication should be administered during neonatal resuscitation.
Riley Suiter investigated the relationship between oxygen saturation at five minutes after birth and intraventricular hemorrhage in extremely preterm infants. This work addresses an important question about whether early oxygen saturation may help identify infants at increased risk of brain injury.
Aziza Abdurakhmanova contributed to an experimental study examining epinephrine administration during neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Her work forms part of our broader research program seeking to improve medication delivery and outcomes during neonatal CPR.
Over the summer, Angelina, Riley, and Aziza gained experience in research methods, data collection and analysis, scientific interpretation, teamwork, and the communication of research findings. They approached their projects with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong commitment to learning.
Summer students bring new perspectives and tremendous energy to our laboratory. Mentoring the next generation of researchers is an important part of the Research4Babies mission, and we are grateful for the valuable contributions Angelina, Riley, and Aziza made during their time with us.
