9th Annual Neonatal Resuscitation Symposium – Advancing Research and Education 👶🫁

Indiana University School of Medicine

The 9th Annual Neonatal Resuscitation Symposium continues to establish itself as the flagship symposium for neonatal resuscitation research and education in North America.

Organized by E. Szyld>, the symposium brings together international experts, clinicians, educators, researchers, and trainees dedicated to improving delivery room care for newborn infants.

This year’s meeting in Indianapolis once again highlights the rapid evolution of neonatal resuscitation science—from respiratory support and surfactant administration to tele-resuscitation and high-acuity simulation training.

🌎 A collaborative North American effort

The organizing committee includes many leaders in neonatal resuscitation research and education across North America, led by E. Szyld, includign also M. Wyckoff, V. Kapadia, A. Katheria, Byrne, N. Yamada, D. Sankaran, B. Shah, C. Song, and Research4Babies

We are also excited that The Incubator Podcast will be part of this year’s symposium.

📢 Abstract submissions now open

The symposium is currently inviting abstract submissions in several categories:

  • Work in progress

  • Completed studies with available results

  • Research protocols or conceptual frameworks for discussion

Ten abstracts will be selected for oral presentation and will receive:

  • Travel support

  • Lodging

  • Registration

  • Meal support

This continues the symposium’s strong commitment to supporting trainees and early-career investigators in neonatal resuscitation research.

🎓 Pre-symposium workshop: Neonatal Tele-resuscitation

A major highlight this year is the pre-symposium workshop focused on:

Neonatal Tele-resuscitation

September 10, 2026

Led by: A. Makkar, J. Fang, and R. Umoren

This interactive workshop focuses on extending neonatal expertise to community hospitals without on-site neonatology support through real-time audiovisual communication and remote guidance.

Participants will explore:

  • Program implementation

  • Technology selection

  • Workflow development

  • Team training

  • Simulation-based tele-resuscitation scenarios

As telemedicine continues to expand, neonatal tele-resuscitation is becoming an increasingly important strategy for improving delivery room care across regional and rural networks.

🫁 Highlights from the symposium program

This year’s scientific sessions cover a broad range of cutting-edge neonatal resuscitation topics, including:

  • Optimizing ventilation strategies in the delivery room

  • Early surfactant administration

  • Implementation of the NRP 9th Edition

  • Neonatal tele-resuscitation

  • Team preparedness for HALO (High-Acuity Low-Occurrence) events

  • Simulation, debriefing, and systems-based approaches to care

The symposium also includes interactive panel discussions, poster presentations, and networking opportunities that foster collaboration across institutions and disciplines.

🚀 Why this symposium matters

The Neonatal Resuscitation Symposium has evolved into more than a conference—it has become a central hub for:

  • Emerging neonatal resuscitation science

  • International collaboration

  • Education and simulation

  • Mentorship and trainee development

  • Translation of research into clinical practice

Meetings like this help shape the future of neonatal resuscitation and ultimately improve outcomes for newborns worldwide.

We look forward to another outstanding meeting in Indianapolis and to continuing collaboration across the neonatal resuscitation community.
