From Visiting Scientist to International Research Leader

One of the most rewarding aspects of academic medicine is watching collaborations grow into lifelong partnerships.

We are delighted to officially welcome Dr. Ming Zhou to the Centre for the Studies of Asphyxia and Resuscitation (CSAR) as one of the founding investigators of CSAR Shanghai.

Dr. Zhou is an Associate Chief Physician in Neonatology at Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital and has established an impressive research program focused on neonatal resuscitation, delivery room care, respiratory support, and simulation-based education.

Our collaboration has grown rapidly over the past several years through regular visits between Shanghai and Edmonton. Last year, Dr. Zhou joined our laboratory in Edmonton as a Visiting Scientist, where we had the opportunity to work side-by-side on several exciting research projects while sharing ideas, developing new studies, and strengthening our scientific partnership.

Since then, our collaborative research efforts have expanded dramatically. Together with colleagues in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Edmonton, we have already published four collaborative papers in 2026, covering neonatal chest compression techniques, sustained inflation and airway epinephrine, simulation science, and the use of artificial intelligence in neonatal education.

Beyond his outstanding scientific contributions, Ming has become a trusted collaborator and friend whose enthusiasm, curiosity, and commitment to improving newborn care are evident in every project we undertake together.

As part of CSAR Shanghai, Dr. Zhou will help lead multicentre clinical studies, simulation research, and educational initiatives while mentoring the next generation of neonatal investigators.

We are excited to continue this journey together.

Welcome to CSAR, Ming!
